Impruneta terracotta pitchers are famous worldwide for their quality and beauty. The tradition of making orci and other terracotta works in this region of Tuscany has deep roots dating back several centuries. THE MATERIAL.

THE PROCESSING

Each terracotta object is hand-moulded in high relief. The creation of each object requires precise processing times, drying at natural temperature, baking in the oven, cooling at natural temperature. Delivery of some items may take about 20 days, which may also vary depending on weather conditions.

IMPRUNETA TERRACOTTA

Terracotta production in Impruneta dates back to Etruscan and Roman times. The Etruscans, who inhabited Tuscany, used terracotta extensively to create vases, urns and other works of art. During the Middle Ages, terracotta production continued to flourish, with a particular growth during the Renaissance. During this period, terracotta from Impruneta was used for architectural decorations, such as window frames, columns, and floors, as well as for everyday objects such as pitchers and amphorae. In 1419 Filippo Brunelleschi chose terracotta from Impruneta to build the dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, given the unique characteristics of lightness and solidity of this material; in fact, the vault has no supporting framework. In the following centuries, the tradition was kept alive and the quality of Impruneta terracotta continued to be recognized and appreciated. Today, production still takes place following traditional craft methods, ensuring the high quality and durability of the products.
