THE MATERIAL.

Onyx is a semiprecious stone valued for its unique beauty and decorative properties. Its banded structure, typically in black and white, but also in other colors such as brown, red and green, creates fascinating visual effects. Onyx is a striking stone because of its striations and colors. The contrasting and often parallel bands of onyx create natural and intricate patterns. This visual feature makes each piece of onyx unique.

When polished, onyx has a smooth, shiny surface that reflects light, adding depth and brilliance. Some types of onyx are also slightly translucent, allowing light to pass through and create a luminous effect.

Onyx can be cut and shaped into a variety of shapes, making it ideal for a wide range of uses, including jewelry, sculpture, decorative tiles, and interior wall coverings.

The combination of intense colors and the ability to be finely polished give onyx an elegant and luxurious appearance, making it a popular choice for high-end furnishings and decorations.

SYMBOLOGY

According to legend, this gem was created when Cupid cut the nails of sleeping Venus and left them scattered on the floor. Because the parts of a divine creature are not mortal, the deities turned them into a gemstone, which was later called Onyx.

The Latins, on the other hand, renamed onyx “marmor alabastrum” in reference to the Alabastra fortress of Thebes, an area on the central periphery of Greece particularly rich in quarries. In ancient Rome, this stone was widely used for glyptics (the art of carving) since, thanks to the different layers of color from which it is composed, clear reliefs were obtained that were clearly visible against the dark background: just think of the many cameos made from onyx that have come down to us.

La mia esperienza con CBAM è stata estremamente soddisfacente. Qualche settimana fa ho acquistato un autentico soprammobile in marmo Verde Alpi a forma di cubo. Volevo usarlo come piedistallo per sostenere altri oggetti decorativi in casa.
Il pezzo, splendidamente realizzato, che ho ricevuto è di una semplicità sorprendente ed elegante – foto allegata –. Il personale con cui ho negoziato le dimensioni su misura per il pezzo in marmo è stato competente e orientato al cliente, la spedizione è stata più rapida del previsto e la comunicazione è stata fluida.

My experience with CBAM was thoroughly satisfying. I purchased a genuine cube-like Verde Alpi marble nickknack a few weeks ago. I wanted to use it as a pedestal to support other design ornamentals at home.
The beautifully crafted piece I received is of stunning, elegant simplicity –picture attached–. The personnel I negotiated the made to order size for the marble piece was competent and customer oriented, despatch was quicker than expected and communication was smooth.
