The fireplace, history and tradition.
Since the dawn of time, one of the primary necessities of man’s concept of “dwelling” has been to procure, domesticate, confine, and maintain fire by exploiting it for lighting, heating, and cooking. The fireplace owes its birth to the Normans, but it knew its heyday in the era of Louis XVI.
Although in the modern world the need is often purely aesthetic and decorative, the fireplace remains an undisputed symbol of family warmth and conviviality. A piece of furniture that we are naturally inclined to associate with winter, but which can become, with simple ideas, the centerpiece in home decoration in any season.
In modern architecture, the increasing focus on the environment and environmentally friendly heating sources is leading to an increasing appreciation of the use of the fireplace in modern homes, successfully combining the purely aesthetic and decorative function with the practical and everyday one.
THE MATERIAL.
SIENA YELLOW MARBLE is one of the most prestigious marbles extracted in Italy. Characterized by a dark yellow background colour, it is very heterogeneous due to the presence of veins with shades ranging from ivory white to light yellow up to a very intense ocher and reddish yellow. Ideal for enhancing the elegance of antique furnishings and dark wood in general, it is also highly effective in environments with a contemporary design.
Siena Yellow Marble is quarried from the Sienese hills, which consist of sedimentary metamorphic rocks formed over millennia by movements of the earth’s crust. It is its location that gives Giallo Siena its distinctiveness: each slab can undoubtedly be considered a unique piece. The heterogeneity of the material means that even within the same block there are different slabs from each other in terms of color distribution and movement of the grain.
DECORATION
The Louis XVI style precedes the reign of Louis XVI by a few years, from which it takes its name and marks the transition from the redundant and bizarre forms of Rococo to the more sober neoclassicism.
The common thread of the Louis XVI decorative style is undoubtedly the reference to classical Greek and Roman culture, from which he inherits the predilection for the composure of shapes and decorations, which nevertheless remain sumptuous and of great impact, in the wake of the Rococo style.
In this yellow Siena marble fireplace we can see how even today the Louis XVI style is synonymous with high manufacturing quality and elegance, with a refined, sober and eclectic style, which is inspiration for the most modern concepts of interior design and architecture.
