SUBJECT
‘Il Covone‘ depicts the stage of tying sheaves of wheat by hand. The deliberately elementary modelling was chosen to represent a peasant scene by the Florentine sculptor Donatello Gabbrielli in the first half of the 20th century. A delicate representation, it is at its best when combined with the panels from ‘ the Sowing‘ and ‘The Reaping‘ series.
Terracotta originated mainly to decorate outdoor spaces, but over time it has also come into use for rooms in the home, becoming a sign that immediately shifts the atmosphere towards bold, high-impact flavours. Prestigious names in architecture and contemporary art are rediscovering the value, also symbolic, of a very ancient material that brings together water and earth, sustainability and the desire for innovation. Accompanied by the rediscovery of all natural materials that respect the environment and enhance it, modern design revisits traditional elements and gives new life to terracotta in architecture, landscape and art.
THE PROCESSING
Each terracotta object is hand-moulded in high relief. The creation of each object requires precise processing times, drying at natural temperature, baking in the oven, cooling at natural temperature. The lava gray color is obtained by adding of a mineral oxide to the clay mixture so that the object is a metal gray hue. All the characteristics of terracotta remain unchanged.
Gray is a popular neutral color, the new neutral par excellence. It conveys elegance and restraint. Very versatile, it goes very harmoniously with bright hues and neutral tones. Lava gray terracotta gives rooms a refined and trendy feel.
