Sacred tree and fruit, the Fig is the emblem of life, light, strength and knowledge. In ancient Greece, it was the sacred tree to Athena, goddess of wisdom and Dionysus. But also a symbol of seduction, sexuality and passion. The fruits or fruit baskets on display are called “Still life”, with this name any cut flower or fruit picked, therefore no longer joined to the living plant. These elements have always been favored by major artists for their paintings, such as the great Caravaggio. On the symbolic level they want to indicate the transience of life in the face of the passing of time.
