The work depicts, with subtle and refined eroticism, the god Love as he tenderly contemplates the face of the beloved maiden, reciprocated by Psyche with a sweetness of equal intensity. The opera Amore e Psiche is a masterpiece in the search for balance. Indeed, in this exquisite arabesque, the two figures are arranged diagonally and divergent from each other. The pyramidal arrangement of the two bodies is balanced by a specular triangular shape formed by Love’s open wings. Psyche’s arms, on the other hand, frame the focal point, opening like a circle around the faces. A strong emotional tension develops within the circle in which Eros’s endless desire is now close to unleashing.<\/div>\n

The figures are depicted in the act immediately preceding the kiss, a moment charged with tension but lacking the emotional upheaval that the very act of kissing would cause in the viewer.<\/div>\n
This is the moment of balance, where we catch that moment of loving enchantment between the tenderness of being lost in each other’s eyes and the carnality of the act.<\/div>\n
The sculpture is made of white marble, polished and finely turned, successfully experimenting with the sense of flesh that Canova aimed to achieve in his works.<\/div>\n
